Even if you go back to it later thinking they'll be upside down again they aren't.

It's the shadows.

I did that on a cover once by accident, was years ago.

Drove me crazy for days, trying to figure out why it looked one way at times, then another way at others, with no changes...

Perhaps the shadows but more importantly how the brain works and interprets what the eyes see.

Do you still have the original of that cover? I'd love to see it. =O

No I never saved the "wrong" version and once you get all the shadows going the right way that illusion clears right up.

The funny thing was that I was convinced I did not understand what I was doing in Photoshop, when in fact it was a simple rookie mistake...
