I just bought my new car and my first automatic....
I haven't driven an automatic since 1991 when I went to California for a 3-week holiday.
I drove across three states and four thousand miles then, and seriously, when I got home to Gatwick and picked up my car I stalled it three times because I forgot to put my foot on the clutch when I was stopping...
...I'm having this delivered so I won't have to drive it for the first time from Ipswich.....some TAXI driver eh?

I really hope it is a good one this time.
The last car I bought from a dealer in Barry, about 5 months ago , had a new clutch put on it before I bought it and his mechanic did something wrong, damaged the layshaft bearing or put the wrong oil in gearbox, according to a garage near me - because three-and-a-half months later the layshaft in the gearbox began making a noise. Took it back, he said there was play but acceptable and it would "drive to Scotland and back - no problem". Just 43 miles later in a catastrophic failure of the gearbox put the car off the road, I've done a SORN on it today. (off the road for good).
I spent £1,500 for a piece of junk and the onus and cost is on me...cheaper to scrap it
I had already spent £500 on faults during lockdown because he shut up shop....
So this car I've bought from a reputable car dealer, in Ipswich, with 3 months warranty and I paid for an extra two years warranty just in case.

I can't think of a time when anyone has ever told me a good story about buying a used car. Hope this one is good to you.

Well I bought a lovely one from Evans Halshaw in Cardiff in 1992, Fiesta 1.4 Ghia. Never had any trouble with it...
There we go Vince, a good one for your memories....

You should have had a word with me before using a dealer in Barry, I live here don't forget. I know of the good or bad ones (or at least my mate a retired mechanic does).

Oh well....I knew you were Welsh by your name, but didn't know you lived in Barry...
I was in a rush to buy one really, within a price range. I needed it to be able to travel to look after my mam. After she passed I intended to get rid of it as not having one for 18 years I didn't think I'd miss it, but boy you get used to the convenience really quickly. Since it died I have realised I want one ... so tried to buy a good one.
Never mind, water under the bridge now. Cannot give the dealer's name as I am still dealing with Barclaycard on the matter. Pointlessly, but I still have to go through the process.

I could tell you morebut this is your thread about your new wheels so I'll leave it there for now. I've hijacked it enough.
Enjoy your new wheels Jeff.
