William Hurt on “New Version” of General “Thunderbolt” Ross

William Hurt will be back to reprise his role as General “Thunderbolt” Ross in Captain America: Civil War, and in an interview with IGN he talks about his character and teases that some changes are coming. The last time we saw Ross was at the very end of The Incredible Hulk when he was sitting in a bar wallowing in his defeat. It’s at this point that he was approached by Tony Stark, who told him about the Avengers Initiative. Apparently, Ross has gone through some changes since then. Hurt explains:

"I loved playing Ross the first time because I was able to try and create an ego as big as the monster he was chasing. And one that was as warped too. [In this film Ross] is different because it’s a different style. It’s a more modernized style. And what they’ve done is they’ve taken a character who was the Ross from the older film and made a new version.

"This is a much newer Ross. A much different Ross. And I liked that a lot. I haven’t had a lot of time to understand it, but I’m doing the best I can. And they haven’t fired me yet."

It’s going to be interesting to see what Marvel has planned for this character. I really hope that somewhere down the line they follow the comic book storyline for him and he becomes the Red Hulk.
