Just yesterday, we learned that Naomi Scott had been cast in the role of Kimberly a.k.a. The Pink Ranger in director Dean Israelite's Power Rangers movie. There's still a lot that we don't know about the upcoming movie, but thanks to a report from Collider, we have some additional details to share with you about what fans might expect to see. This includes some interesting information on the timeline, the villains, and the opening scene.

A lot of fans expected the movie to be a reboot of the original series, but apparently that might not be the case. According to the recent intel, "the movie will be wholly set after the events of the current TV iteration, Power Rangers Dino Charge." They also say that the Dino Charge characters will also "factor into the movie’s opening, perhaps it will serve as a hand-off of the franchise to the new super-suited team."

The report goes on to expand on that opening scene of the movie, saying it "will open with a huge battle scene." This has been talked about in earlier rumors, but there is also updated info on the villains who will be involved. For those of you hoping to see Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, you might be disappointed to learn that they won't be the main bad guys. They will still be part of the universe, though.

There’s one major villain from the series that might be included, though! This bit of news could make you happy. This could be considered a SPOILER, so if you don't want to know then don't read past this point.

This classic villain promised she would return, but never did. This led fans to believe that maybe she was killed off or turned good by the Z-wave. That character is Scorpina. The report goes on to say:

"Sources tell us the ruthless and dangerous minion of Rita has returned to plague the Rangers once more. And it seems she’s brought an army, which she uses to battle the Power Rangers and their robot Megazords in the epic opening battle scene. From what we’re hearing, the Rangers (presumably the Dino Charge team at this point) are protecting the Morphin Grid, an energy field that provides power to every generation of Rangers. This energy grid not only lets the Rangers borrow its power to morph into their super versions, it gives them access to past, present, and future Ranger memories so that they can glimpse other Rangers and glean strategies from battles. The instruction manual on the Morphin Grid is probably pretty extensive, but certain glitches like not being able to sustain two of the same Rangers for long will give the Power Rangers writers plenty of plot options to work with."

I told you this new information would be interesting! Until any of this is actually confirmed, you've got to treat this as a rumor. That being said, Collider is usually reliable when it come to movie scoops like this. What do you think about the possible direction that this new Power Rangers could be going?

This was a horrible franchise when I was a kid. Is it really still going?
