Kylo Ren's Gut-Wrenching Action

If you haven't seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens yet, then stop reading now because this regards one of the biggest, most powerful moments in the movie.

Kylo Ren was seduced by the Dark Side, and when he learned his father, Han Solo, had the droid in his possession, he told Supreme Emporer Snoke that he wouldn't be swayed from his mission.

He proved his dedication to the Dark Side and to Snoke when he killed Han. He killed his own dad! This was something that in all honesty I didn't see coming. I was absolutely shocked and brought to tears.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, J.J. Abrams talked about the insane decision Kylo Ren followed through with and explained why he chose to take the story down this dark and sad road.

“Long before we had this title, the idea of The Force Awakens was that this would become the evolution of not just a hero, but a villain and not a villain who was the finished, ready-made villain, but someone who was in process.

“All of us bring our own experiences to it. As a father, as a friend to people who have children, I know what it’s like to see struggle, to be part of struggle. I know how painful it can be. I know how real it is. And this is, of course, an insane extrapolated version.”

Abrams went on to say they were looking for a moment to set Kylo Ren apart from Vader in a bold way.

“Star Wars had the greatest villain in cinema history. So, how you bring a new villain into that world is a very tricky thing. We knew we needed to do something f—king bold. The only reason why Kylo Ren has any hope of being a worthy successor is because we lose one of the most beloved characters.”

It worked. In my mind Kylo Ren is darker and more sinister villain than Vader was. At this point, I don't see how Kylo can ever be a redeemable character like Vader was in the end. He's worse than I could have ever imagined. I'm looking forward to seeing how his story arc plays out in the upcoming two films.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has made a record $247 million at the domestic box office and $529 million globally in its opening weekend.
