Game of Thrones - The Future

:OffTopic We might want to move this conversation to a new Topic... :)

An hour ago on TV.com

The end of Game of Thrones is in sight -- probably.

Show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently told Deadline that they need approximately 13 episodes to end the series. "It's two more seasons we're talking about. From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70-75 hours, and that's what we'll end up with. Call it 73 for now," Benioff said.

Sam is the key to Game of Thrones ending

The quote falls in line with what Benioff and Weiss told Variety in April. They're planning two shorter final seasons for the HBO epic with seven episodes in Season 7 and six episodes to wrap everything up. While HBO renewed Game of Thrones through Season 8 earlier this year, the network told TVGuide.com Tuesday that it has not confirmed whether Season 8 will be the final season or how many episodes have been ordered.

Game of Thrones Season 6 finale ratings hit series high

Benioff and Weiss are confident the show is winding down though, according to the Deadline article. "We're trying to tell one cohesive story with a beginning, middle and end. As [Weiss] said, we've known the end for quite some time and we're hurtling towards it," Benioff continued.

I tend to do the same but I couldn't resist getting into Game of Thrones round about the start of S6 due to all the hype about it. Now I have to wait for the final 7 episode season. :-(

I should've known better. :Unpleased

I know. I jumped in on GOT at season 3 & got hooked. Now I'm stuck waiting a whole year for each new 10 episodes. It's just not the same & I've about lost interest.

You aren't stuck waiting a whole year for each new Season, Season 7 is the last and only 7 Episodes long by all reports. Now you know why I normally wait with ones I think will last for a few seasons.

I'm lucky, my internet connection is now reasonably rock solid and fast enough to stream at 1080p.

That reminds me, I've got to update the KODI tutorial.

Yes, but I had to wait for seasons 4-6. At only 10 episodes at a time, it's hard to stay immersed.

Yes foggy, they seem to be going the 10 eps per series way, god knows why. Could be a Netflix thing? IDK but looks like a downturn.

That seems to be coming from a "uninformed source" Pip as it is inaccurate.

This is based on info posted today quoting Co-creator and showrunner David Benioff who just talked to Deadline and gave a pretty solid answer as to exactly how many seasons and episodes are left after season 6 wrapped up Sunday.

The powers that be have said for some time that it will be drawing to close soon but Season 7 will not be the last, Season 8 will be according to current info just posted -- and the last two will likely both be short seasons with about 13-15 total episodes left to end it.

You can read about it here:

Length Of Game Of Thrones Season Eight Not Set In Stone Yet While Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been happily stating in interviews for a good long while now that the game plan for the remainder of the series is a seven episode season seven followed by a six episode season eight, it seems that may not be yet set in stone.

According to HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys – speaking to Entertainment Weekly – Benioff and Weiss are still deciding how many episodes that final season will need.

“They’re still figuring out the shape of the season, what they want to do,” says Bloys. “I’ll take as many as they want to do. If they give me eight, I’ll want 10. But it’s really up to them. They’ll let me know.”

He also addresses the rumours that HBO is looking into a spin-off series when the show does end. “It’s such a big property we would be foolish not to explore it, but it’s a pretty high bar… We’ll take some shots at it. I’m not going to do it just to do it. It has to feel very special. I would rather have no sequel and leave it as-is than have something we rushed out.

“A prequel feels like it has less pressure on it [than a spin-off],” he continues. “[Author George R.R. Martin’s history of Westeros] gives you areas in which to say to a writer, ‘If you were going to do this, then go flesh it out,’ and we’ll see what comes back. But I don’t feel any pressure that we have to have something.”

Yup it's a cash cow, the powers that be will not want it to end lol but end of the day it will be for the best to not drag it out as so many have done.

I doubt a spin off will fly, they rarely do, not to say I will not watch it, just saying it's not got the odds on it's side for success.
