Problem replacing a file

Hello.

I had some second thoughts, and changed a text in a cover I recently uploaded. That affected four covers, actually. I could replace three of these, but I have been trying to replace the fourth one, for two days already. I keep receiving an error when I choose the corrected file from my PC and press on UPLOAD.

On Mozilla, the connection "restarts", Chrome "can't access the site", Edge can't access the site, just as Opera.

The cover in question is this one: http://uncovered.name/coverart/displayi ... play_media.

Any help?

Looks like we have a problem with the gallery..

I'll alert CT and he''ll sort it out.

EDIT it appears to have sorted itself out. Try replacing the file again.

I've just replaced the cover with a test file. Do you want to try replacing that?

Further to the above, I then created another account just in case it was Admin priviledges tat were allowing me to do what you cannot.

I logged into the test account, uploaded a cover, logged out, logged back in as admin, allowed the cover, logged out and back in test acoount and changed the cover with no problem.

I also deleted cookies and cache. But no use. I can't replace the test file. The same error happens.

It is odd, since I could replace the other three ones I needed to replace with no problem.

Maybe... can you just delete that cover? I will upload it as a new one.

I managed to do it!

I tried uploading the file from my cell phone, and at the third attempt, it worked. The two previous attempts also failed.

This is quite odd. Isn't it?

It is odd as I can't replicate it. I'll try with my cell phone later and see how I get on.

OK I have the same (or similar) problem using a phone.

I can only surmise it is due to using a cell phone.

What I'm still trying to understand is, did you use your cell phone to adjust your file or if you used another M/C why didn't you upload it from there?

I would never attempt to create or correct a file on a cell phone.

There are many sites at present that have "cell" versions to reduce overheads and give the speeds.

Bottom line, don't use a cell phone to try and abuse this site.

Think what he meant was that when it wouldn't work he tried his phone and got it to work.

The first attempts I made were from my regular PC. Everything worked fine for the other three files which I tried to replace, but not for this last one. I used four different browsers. Using the phone was just a "let's try" moment.

I transferred the untouched file from my PC to the phone, and followed the same steps to replace the file that I did (and failed) on my PC, but throught the internet browser from the cellphone. No, I didn't use any mobile version of the browser interface to do it. Actually, I used the desktop mode. The first two times, it failed, on the third attempt, it worked.

And definitely no, no modifications were made to the image on the phone, since the job was already done on Photoshop. I just moved a .jpg file from one place to another, and tried.

Oh, and sorry for taking so long to reply. Working shifts are longer during Easter time, so I don't have so much free time these days. :)

Two things are generally the issue when replacing files.

1. File size.
2. File name.

If the first then it's just too big and the gallery limit still applies so it will fail.

I suspect the second in your case.

Having spaces and other non-standard characters in filenames is a big no-no.

Your file name on that item currently is:

_UHD__2001_A_Space_Odyssey_ESP_B.jpg

The fact it starts with a underscore _ means there was a illegal character in the first character position on initial upload and it was replaced.

The file replacer is not as tolerant on file names as the uploader, so that is likely the problem.

Best to name files with alpha-numeric characters only and no special characters, no accented characters and no spaces.

:)

Yes, the file name started with "[". That must have been the issue here.

Thanks. Note taken for future uploads.
