Roots was released last week August 23 on DVD/Blu-ray. I love mini-series and this one looks very good. I enjoyed the original mini-series back in the 70’s so I’m pretty sure to like this one also.

Roots (2016) TV Mini-Series

Roots is a 2016 American miniseries and a remake of the 1977 miniseries with the same name, based on Alex Haley's 1976 novel, Roots: The Saga of an American Family. It first aired on May 30, 2016 and plays in 4 parts. It was produced on a budget of $50 million.

Series synopsis ~

A man named Kunta Kinte is kidnapped in Africa then sold into slavery in the United States. He struggles to retain his spirit and sense of self while struggling against those who have enslaved him. Fighting to become free of his conditions, he suffers from horrendous punishments when his owners become threatened by his strength. As the years pass by, he marries a woman named Belle and then the lives of his descendants continue his legacy.

I liked the original miniseries from 1977 quite a bit. I'm not sure I want to revisit it through this new one. I seriously doubt this will stand up to the comparison, but if I find it available for free, I might try it.
